Do I need an adapter? I suppose I should just bite the bullet and take everything apart and see for myself.

Yes you can use the GM factory XM antenna and you will get better reception that with the little magnet antenna they give you :) Both SIRIUS and XM antennas are the same. Now you need to make sure you have the XM antenna first. The Onstar/XM antenna is a 3 wire antenna. The Onstar only antanna looks exactly the same on the outside but only has 2 wires. You can make a cable extension yourself with parts from radioshack or you can contact brianrwebb@ca.rr.com and he makes nice cables (whatever length you want 18-20ft is perfect) for a decent price. Good luck

The antenna cable is only in the back it does not run to the head unit you will have to get it from back there.

I can do that, but there must have been some connection between my factory head and the XM antenna.

Actually I believe only the sound comes into the deck through the wire harness. The antenna plugs into the XM receiver in the back passenger side.

Correct, XM and Onstar cables are both in the right rear (passenger side) of the vehicle and the plug into the digital receiver.

I contacted Brian and now have to pull off the rear panal to see the exact plug and length I will need. Cant wait to eliminate that little bugger antenna. Just wish it were easier to pull the panal (have to remove the seat belt, and hoping I can get to it without removing the lower panal also).

You don't have to go through all that if all you want is the antenna. You could just pull that cover in back on top (close to hatch under antenna) and disconnect it from there (the connection is approx 3-5" from the antenna) and just get him to make you a longer cable :) He makes quality cables btw, you won't be disappointed :) I've bought 2 so far and I keep sending people his way anytime they need a cable.

All I did was pull the side panal after removing the 10 mm bolt for the D clip. I found the yellow XM plug as well as the multi wire connector that goes to the dashboard. Brian mentioned a second connector for the OnStar that I do not remember. Is the factory antenna connected directly to the OnStar or did it plug into the XM converter box?

My OnStar is still working, as well as my car cell phone. If there is a second cable coming from the factory antenna that I overlooked, I guess I need to connect it somehow.

By the way, I ran the yellow cable back into the access door for the passanger rear lights so it will be easy to get to now.
