Overhead DVD & Headliner Install

Overhead DVD & Headliner Install
Well here's some tips for installing a overhead DVD player. I was curious what was underneath the headline. Well we have about 1" of space between the roof and the headliner. I used 3/4 screws and "no power tools". I was told to fasten into a brace but the only one was to far forward. The headliner it self is rather ridged. There are some options which one can do to support the player. I used a sandwich method of placing a piece of metal on the other side of the headliner and the mounting bracket on the other.
1. First I taped off the headliner so I didn't get it dirty.
2. Next was to find center. I used the top interior door pillar plastic pieces (where the seat belts are) as points of reference for finding center. It measured 47" so 23.5 was my center. The other point of reference I use was the visor clips and measured back evenly.
3. I marked off masked headliner from the point I just measured and also masked the dvd bracket and found center point on that. Now that I have this square I mounted the bracket to the headliner using (2) 3/4" screws.
4. With the bracket in place I cut where the wires are going to go through the headliner. Then I took the bracket back down and removed the masking tape off the headliner and reinstalled the mounting bracket using all (6) 3/4" screws.
5. I now then added my backing brace which was a 2"x4" piece of metal which I put up through the headliner where I cut for the wires and sandwich'd the headliner between mounting bracket and backing brace. This took care of supporting issues.
6. From here I pulled the weather strip from the door jam and used a coat hanger wire to fish my wires through. And then installed my player and making all the necessary hook ups. ( I used a 'add a circuit' for the ACC wire in slot #21 of the fuse panel.

horrible install. the proper way would have been to slide a 3/4" of MDF into the headliner and secure it to the roof with silicone. then mount the screen to the headliner. otherwise it will begin to sag and its alot easier to steal that way.
believe me i have seen too many botched jobs, saggy headliners, and kids who pulled the headliner and screen down.
