Premium Sound system install?

Maybe it's been asked before but after being on here for hours searching my eyeballs are drying out....so here goes.
I have the factory Single cd 6 speaker system in my car. is the wiring there for the premium system? if not how hard to install?
I want to keep the factory setup so I can use steering wheel controls and factory sub.
Do I have to have the premium head unit or can mine be wired into sub with some creative wiring?
Can i get a factory sub and box and tap into existing head unit with aftermarket amp?? Or even aftermarket speaker in factory box?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

as far as i remember reading rewirin the premum intor your system is a pita. you have to run all the speaker wires to the amp then back to the speakers. easier to just use this method https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/audio-video-17/how-hook-up-amp-sub-woofer-setup-without-affecting-existing-premium-sys-10944/ and install a line level converter.

If it's bass you want I would just get a aftermarket sub/amp and go from there.

If you want some really good info go to crutchfield.com and e-mail them, they have really helped me in the past. They are a tad spendy so I usually don't by from them, but they are helpful!

The answer is no. The premium wiring is not there. In fact, the car-side harness that plugs into the head unit is even different.

It's possible...I guess..but to answer your question, no, it's not there.

And you can keep steering wheel controls with any high end head unit with a remote

Just need the IR adapter for steering wheel control
Ant car audio shop sells `em

Ok , still couple questions....
1. If I install an after market sub, what do I need to put it in factory location....I assume I will need the factory box to mount it in? Can that be purchased separately?
2. If I hook the sub into factory 6 speaker system...tap into the front or rear speakers for best sound?
3. I do have a head unit with remote laying around...what is IR adapter to use steering wheel controls?

Thanks again guys.
:)

1. factory box can be found on ebay or just watch the buy sell forum

2. personally i would say tap into the rear so that you dont loose any sound where you are at the most. in the drivers seat.

3. this is a steering wheel controll adapter from crutchfield. i have heard good reviews here about it. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SWIX...X.html?tp=3405

just to add if you cannot find the box cheap here or ebay you could always go to the dealer or check online parts places.
