Sound upgrade.

I have a LT1 with the standard system in it. I would like to upgrade the sound quality a bit. I thought if I upgraded the speakers to Infinity’s 5022 all around that this would be the best way to go. However the guy at best buy told me I should change my head unit as well. I thank the stock unit is fine… What do you think?

Should change the head unit and speakers or can I get away with just changing speakers? Also It is 5.25 front and back?

Personally I am glad I pulled the stock radio. It ok but if you are upgrading the speakers might as well upgrade the radio.

If I remember the spealers are 6.5. If you do a search there are lots of threads on this subject and lots of input on the subject

hes just trying to get his commission for the month. its better to use an amp than a head unit any day of the week. infinitys are good i have them in my truck . on the hhr the speakers are 6.5" components in the front and reg 2-3 ways in the rear, just depends on what you go with. i would really recommend crutchfield.com will get all wiring for gm vehicle and instructions to help along the way. good luck with your search

That's the first switch I did and the results were great!

I liked the factory radio. Still got it in my wife's and she loves it. Gotta get around to changing her speakers.........

id change the radio, it will make a major difference in the sound quality, also if your gonna pay retail for the speakers (not getting them from ebay) id also suggest crutchfield over bb or cc any day. i just bought my components from them they have very helpful techs that actually know what they are talking about, although they dont really have a harness for the hhr (with factory pioneer) all you need to do is piggy back three wires no need to spend 10 dollars for a chevy universal harness thats gonna do the same thing.

they gave me the adapter plates that you will need for all four doors and very helpful instructions plus offer free tech support over the phone if you do have trouble

First off, I would like to say thanks for your input. I’m just going to change out my speakers for now and see how it goes. I checked out Crutchfield.com and this place is awesome. I ordered some infinity reference 6012i for the front and rear. The best part was that it came out way better then best buy or eBay. The speakers were on sale for $59 a pair and that included the mounting brackets, the GM wiring harness and free shipping. I also ordered some speaker baffles $7.99 a pair. So the total everything... $135.96 Awesome!

Thanks again!

a new hu would supply a little more power than the factory job, crisper highs, tighter bass

enjoy em

Ok, Now that I have this stuff coming. What is the best way to remove the door panels and should I beware of some common problems as well.

I'm tempted to upgrade the door speakers as well. I have the Pioneer Premium system with factory XM, so I'm not going to change out the HU.
