I was an installer for many years. Now I am a product design engineer for my lighting company but have my own personal shop. I am building this as my companies demo car, I also do work on some other manufacturers demo cars and tour the show circuit. I do spend an awful amount of time in the car and logged over 18000 miles within a year.
Over $2000 is just for one amp.

I make all dash and door pieces from fiberglass mostly, they are one off pieces meant to house the specific product I am using. I do them all by hand using wood as frames and sometimes use acrylic and ABS. Its very labor intensive and I am right now in the process of practicing my own injection molding using liquid plastics from a company called Smooth On.

I am addicted to audio stuff and once took out a 20K loan to buy equipment for a car I bought for $400.

I may be nuts but if anyone has any questions about custom audio systems, let me know, I am also an acoustic engineer and have done extensive acoustic testing in my HHR. Did you know that the roof in these can move up to 2.5" peak to peak when playing at 155 dB and because of the quiet steel you can barely notice any sheet metal sound. Problem is the sunroof braces break.
