Unhook the Stock Sub Woofer ???

Any body here know if the stock Sub Woofer can be disconnected leaving just the stock radio without any issues.

This would be done in a 2011 2LT with a Factory Pioneer install.

Good question.
I am looking to add another HHR.
Most of the really low mileage ones within my reach are 2LT models withe the Pioneer radio and Sub Woofer factory installed.
I have a 1LT with the My Link Package which has the upgraded radio but not the sub woofer. I have adjusted it so that I like the sound just fine.
If I end up purchasing the 2LT model, and for some reason I do not like the Sub Woofer, I want to know for sure what would be the result to just unhook it and use the radio with 6speakers.
Just want an out without getting to involved.

From what i understand its a pita to remove the panel that encloses the subwoofer.

X2 on what he said. Just turn the bass down. That way if you ever did want it you wouldnt have to connect it back up.

I dont have a factory sub. I wonder if there is a fuse for it?

Are you saying that the Sub Woofer has it's own separate adjustment controls ? or just turn it down?

ie. I can adjust the Standard bass control and then adjust the subwoofer separately ?

If so, can I just turn off the subwoofer if I want and use the standard bass ?

I looked thru the owners manual for my 1LT but do not find any reference to the Sub Woofer anywhere.

The only clue I could find is the floor console fuse block shows a fuse #6 for "amplifier"
No mention as to what that means.

Hmmmm. The amp powers the sub. It may work to unplug that fuse. Not sure though. Could try it and find out.

I don't know what the cutoff frequency is for the main speakers to the sub. If you find the sub overpowering you can adjust the tone (bass setting) to the point where the sub is not noticeable. I don't think that you will have a problem finding a point where you are happy with it that way.

Thanks for that.

I find it Strange that the Owners Manual does not make any reference to the Sub woofer.
I wonder if there is a different manual for the 2LT models ?

Finding low mileage HHR's is getting harder as time goes by.

Geez ... Chevrolet.

Drop the HHR right when gasoline goes to $4.00 plus a gallon ?

Drop the HHR right when Motor Trend finally gives it the In Class Top Award ?

Drop the HHR right when there is NO Real replacement ? Not even a lowly PT

Try to sell me on the Equinox as a replacement ????? Hah !!

Geez ... Chevrolet
