Question upgrade to factory 6 disc

Hey everyone,
Has anyone had trouble at the dealer trying to get a different radio programmed, i'm trying to upgrade from singe disc non mp3 to a 6 disc with mp3, dealer said it can not be done because the 6 disc i have is out of an 06 and mine is a 07. Wondering if this was ture or is the service dept a bunch of idiots.

They did do some changes from '06 to '07, this may be one of them.

I upgraded from a one disc to a six disc with no problem except one. They charged me $89 to reprogram the computer so it would work. Like Mike said...they may have made some changesand that could be one. I'd talk to another dealer or call GM and get the info straight from them.

I own a 2006 HHR LT1 2.4L that had the upgrade radio & Pioneer speaker system (single CD XM ready). I purchased a 2007, 6CD factory changer on eBay and installed it myself. The dealer reprogrammed it for me ($50) and it works great. Another dealer wanted $98!! Anyway, they told me the only thing the programming does is to link the VIN to the radio for theft protection. So now when I disconnect & re-connect the battery, the radio with not LOCK. If however it is switched to another vehicle, it will have to be "programmed" with the VIN for that vehicle.

I'm curious about doing this as well, but have some questions.

1) What are the differences in the basic/premium radios?
2) Is the premium unit an "in-dash" 6 disc changer?
3) Does the premium unit play MP3 discs?
4) Are the displays different?

I have an '06 LS with the basic radio, so if I wanted to do this, all I would have to do is swap and have re-programmed?

Thanks.

they swapped the head unit 2 times befroe they got it right. this was to fix it so that the dvd would play oninternal speaker system.

After doing some research, I answered most of my questions.

But would my '06 take an '07 6-disc?
Thanks.

I still would like to know if a 2007 HHR Premium stereo would easily swap out with the base stereo in my '06? I know that I will have to reprogram the ECM. I just want to make sure that there's nothing to mod.
Thanks.

06 Daytona...this should answer your question. It appears that Popi has done it and it's working fine. The only thing that won't work is the subwoofer in the back...because there isn't one unless you add it yourself.
