Upgrading Pioneer component ?'s
I am looking to swap out my stock Pioneer components up front with some Alpine SPS 610C's but I found someone trying to sell just the mid-drivers for $20.00. Should I get the whole set or would the stock tweeters be fine with just the upgraded woofers?

The stock speakers are 2 ohm. Are you running them off of the facotry deck or aftermarket like your JBL sub? If you are running them off the stock amp you are going to loose some of your volumn. Best in this case would be to loose both equally as leaving the 2 ohm tweets and running 4 ohm mids will make for a lot more tweet then mid.

You have the Pioneer upgrade stereo with the subwoofer so you have a factory amp just like I did. The factory speakers for our stereos are 2 ohm speakers. Now whether the JBL will be any louder or not I do not know but they should not be a drastic difference like switching out the factories to 4 ohm speakers. When I switched my factory speakers out for Polk DB 4 ohm speakers my volumn was drastically reduced.
Looks like the JBL's have a 92 db sensitivity rating so they should be almost identical in volumn to the factories.
I would HIGHLY recommend that you put a ring of foam on the JBL's like the factory speakers have so the foam is squished down by the door panel. This foam keeps the backwave of the speaker separated from the front wave of the speaker thus avoiding any cancellation of the lower frequencies. If you do not do this you will more than likely loose some of the midbass.

The factory speakers are very clean but with the tiny amount of power avail from the factory amp coupled with the limited amount of volumn knob adjustment on the factory HU only get so loud. Those two items are your biggest hinderences in sheer output here. That is actually why all the speakers are 2 ohm speakers so that you get more power from the amp.

I sounds like you have the base stereo. The Pioneer upgraded system comes with 7 2 ohm speakers. The upgraded system is the one that comes with the stock sub in the back and a factory amp to push all of it. The sub is actually a dual 2 ohm sub.

Just to make sure I get it right:
- having the Pioneer sign on the speaker grille on the left hand side in the trunk means that I have the upgraded Pioneer system?
- if I wanted to replace these Pioneer speakers inside the doors, I should go for 2 ohm 6.5 inch speakers?
I am curious because when I removed the door panels the other day to replace the door actuator motors, I noticed these speakers which to me looked kind of cheap. Like made out of cardboard. I don't have any experience with car sound systems. That's why I'm asking whether these are the upgraded Pioneer speakers.
