I've got the factory head unit in my HHR and have added a Kicker box, Rockford Fosgate amp and cap to the system with no problem. A friend of mine did all the work for me and I believe he spliced into the existing wiring so it can be done. I wish I could tell you more.

You may have more luck if this thread was in the audio section. I'm sure someone will post with more info for you.

Always refer to your original thread instead of making a new one on the same topic. Thanks

If you have the premium system check this out https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/audio-video-17/how-hook-up-amp-sub-woofer-setup-without-affecting-existing-premium-sys-10944/

This weekend I spliced a line output converter into the rear speaker wires off of the head unit. From the converter I was able to run the RCA cable back to the amp. I put in a 12 year old PPI APA100 amp on a 6 year old JL Audio 10" in a truck wedge box...it definitely thumps pretty hard!

If you do a line output converter there are two filter screws on it that are most likely turned all the way up so you get a lot of distortion at low volume. Make sure you leave out the head unit when you adjust the amp so you can adjust the converter as well. I had to pull the dash components twice....
