I replaced the front and back speakers with two pairs of Infinity Reference 6022i
I got them on a special for $80 a pair, right now they are $90 at Crutchfield. Some may consider them cheap, but they sound quite a bit better than the stock speakers with the stock radio, not long after I installed them I changed the radio also.

I ended up not going with the alpine S, the price was right but they didnt sound much better than the stock speakers. There was a touch less harshness in the tweeters, mid and bass about the same. Not enough to convince me to put down the cash and tear apart my interior in sub-freezing weather. The only speakers I have listened to so far and liked were Hertz and Morel, but they are both too much for me, I just dont have $600 to spend on them.

MTX coaxials are some of the best sounding for the money. They are efficient enough to be ran off the factory head unit. A set of 6 1/2s will run about 100 bucks. The shop i deal with has a set next to Quart references and the MTX's sound actually a lil better off the radio. I would definately look into the MTX's tho. They will surprise you.

Only cost 2-300 for door speakers. Hell I wouldn't pay 500 for just some door speakers! If you really want to do it on the cheap, just go to wally world and get a decent set of sony or something name brand. Man I just slapped myself, but they would atleast give you better sound quality, and response then the crappy factory speakers.

i dont wanna do wally world cheap. although i do alot of my shopping there. i just dont think i could bring myself to buying audio equipment from there. my friends nick n monte own a place here "mobile sound". they sale hertz, diamond audio, mb quart, kicker, ect ect.. most of it is expensive. but they do awesome work on custom installs. i just wanted to know what yall run and what yall like the best in the HHR. i wouldnt mind buying some from them or from like best buy , preferably in the 2-300 range for 4 speakers..??

Definately doable for the 2-300 range. Remember though, if you may spend a little more at your friends shop but you will get their expertise too. I use a guy here called Stewart Radio, he is a little more expensive (though not that often or that much) but his knowledge if unbeatable. His only rule though is if you bought it somewhere else it is their/your problem, if you bought it from him he will work with you on anything. Check out your friends to see if they would be the same or not.

Ask your friends about the new hertz dieci series. they are suppose to be reasonable priced and have a great sound.

Am I wrong here on this or not? Even if you replace the door speakers w/o a new head unit..and/or amping them. You will get a little better sound but not that much difference. Just asking. Todd (uma)
