I also have mine in the lower left window, as low as I can get it. Mine is a DASH unit and very large and square but I love the features.
Anyway, I had wanted to use the cubby, but being left-handed, this works so much better for me.

Mine's mounted to the windshield, top, just to the right of the rearview mirror. I can't put it lower left, because in Pennsylvania, we have inspection stickers there, and almost anywhere else on the windshield is either seriously out of reach or seriously blocking the view.

Too close to the heater vents and when the unit is removed the base is still there advertising to the world you own one..with the TOMTOMONE and the SS the suction cup on the left lower wshield lets the unit just overlap the kickout for the boost gage, almost like it was ment to be..and like cell phones, you shoudn't be programming them while driving...nor eating or drinking or staring at the seat covers in the passing lane or playing cards or wondering what that bump is on your chin.....................................
Thought about the center hole but then it would become habit to keep it there so when summer hits and the temps get up in the triple digits(Suzy Homemaker Bakers Oven comes to mind)......figured it better to just leave it removable and tuck it low and out of the sun(and site)when parked...and install a connector under the boost gage, that way the short pigtail stays with the unit.
