XM Radio HELP please !

Okay Dumb question time: 2008 2LT

...Supposedly has xm capability, however- when pressing the "band" button, the only options available are FM and AM. There is "CAT" button that when pushed says: "XM feature" but that is all I can find- how the hell do I bring up the XM channels on this thing... or do I not have XM ?

I was gonna try the 7 day trial, but can't even get to channel 0 to get my radio ID like it says in the manual. Ugh.

Help, please !

-Alan

First check your roof above the hatch. Is there a "shark fin" type antenna? If not you don't have XM, and only have the base radio. You would also get the XM choice under Band.

This link gives you your 2008s car manual. From what you explain you may not have XM or if the HHR is used maybe the original radio was swapped out.

It sounds like you may not have an XM capable HHR, or one that lost its original head unit. Like Blackknight said, check above your rear hatch for an antenna, if there is one there its time to dig deeper, if not no XM from the factory.

My '06 HHR has the radio that is capable for XM, I have the CAT button, but I do not have XM. There is no fin antenna on the roof, and I don't have the receiver built in. Like Blacknight said, check to see if you have the antenna on your roof.

Alan,
The antenna may be a black 1 1/2" x 2" x 1/2" tall square above the rear hatch.

XM radio Help...

Yes, the "shark fin" type antenna is there at the back of the roof over the hatch... I did get the car used last week, but only 13,000 miles - I can't imagine the radio unit was swapped out in that time...

I do have the manual, but the info in it is generic and covers all versions of the radio without giving any real specific details on how to tell which one you should have. Very frustrating.

Guess I may have to take it to a local GM dealer to solve the mystery. The dealer I bought it from is 2 1/2 hours away and an Audi/VW dealership, lol. they had taken it in trade, but didn't know much about the features.

Thanks for everyones input,
-Alan

Provide me with the last 8 digits of your VIN and I can tell you if it is XM equipped.
