Smile 97K Miles on original rear drum brakes

Hi everyone,

Yup. I have original drum brakes. Bought my car new from Chevy in 2008. LS 2.2.

From the most recent services, the measurements on the rear always surprise me, as in, how can they still be good?

I have maintained the car just fine, but never had to redo the drums. I am just planning on the 100K service.

Is this normal?

Thank you!

Welcome!

Yes, normal. The rear brakes usually last about 150K. They do need to be kept adjusted because the self-adjusters don't work very good.

Welcome to the site!!
Yes rear drum brakes do last a while, if kept clean and adjusted properly!
Enjoy that HHR!!

I am over 226,000 miles and still have ALL of the original brakes (front & rear). I do a lot of GO and not so much WHOA. I figure it won't be long now until I am forced to change everything out.... but why rush it!?!?!

WOW .... That's gotta be the best results I have ever heard of on OEM Brakes.

My last Chevy Venture Van had 100,000 and the rears were still 40%. Fronts done at 85,000 miles and resurfaced the slight warped rotors.

Shows how much the driving habits affect the life of all brake parts.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

Ok cool! I was always so surprised at the reading on the drums. I have replaced the front discs only once.

This car has been so worry free! There has only been a couple of repairs needed past the 3 year/36,000 and the dealer was kind enough to comp it as a warranty!

I have another question on maintenance, but I will create a new thread about it.

I replaced my rears at 150K just because..... However; I did notice a huge difference after I did it.
