I have just installed the new nickel plated rotors and new pads. I am getting some sqealling out of both sides. I have about 50 miles on them so far and have gone pretty easy on them as the break in instructions direct. Any idea's?

You might just need to heat them up alittle bit. I have just the factory brakes and they were doing the same thing, so insted of going to the shop I just went down the highway and slightly pushed on the brakes with my foot on the gas. No more noise from mine.

 

This is completely normal Joe. The instructions warn you to brake easy during the break-in period or chatter and squealing will occur. We have found that with the nickel plated rotors break-in time can be increased up to 300-miles, as you have to wear the plating off where the pads contact the rotor. You will hear noise until they are fully broken in.

I wish I could offer a solution, but it's one of the tradeoffs of having nice shiny rotors. I now have 400-miles on mine and they are fully broken in. Braking noise is gone away, and braking power is much increased over stock. I have noticed the SP "low dust" pads are leaving more residue than the stock pads did. Spoke with SP about this and they told me this is often the case with newer vehicles; the stock organic material pads produce less dust, but have poorer gripping power. The SP pads are semi-metallic; more stopping power and more dust (than stock).

I was having the same issue with mine. After about 10 days it cleared up, not a peep since!

 

OK, I now have about 325 miles on the HHR. The squeeling has disappeared!

The brakes grab well and look great!

The only negetives are more brake dust and a wirring sound(which I new I would have because of past experience with drilled, sculpted rotors). The sound is not really bad, just different. And with my sub banging who hears it anyway!

Theres a spray on type of coating to be applied to the rear of the brake pads to help prevent chattering... How many applied it ?
