Red face Braking

I know that HHRs have bad brakes from Consumer Reports over ther past 3 yrs., so I want to upgrade the front rotors and pads. Should I use slotted or are slotted and drilled the best? Alos, does anyone make a rear drum to disc kit or do I have to canabalize an SS from a wrecking yard (if there is one)? I really hate the disc and drum application.

I would be very leery of any aftermarket rotors. But then you apparently feel that CR is the gospel, so it probably doesn't matter much to you. There is another thread concerning this exact same thing, maybe you should read it. I happen to like the disc/drum setup. The HHR brakes much better with it than most vehicles.

Here is a link to where I got my front rotors.

They say drilled can crack so I got the slotted and dimpled rotors. Teses are very nice. Here is also a link to my install. Post #5 https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/general-hhr-4/brakes-some-front-end-noise-26117/

It's not that I think CR is gospel, just that after 3 yrs. of testing they still rate the brakes as poor. I'm primarily looking for rotors that are harder and less likely to groove and wear like softer steel does. The only reason I don't like the drum rears is that disc's are a lot easier to service (replace) and I feel they give a better all around even braking, especially in an emergancy. I appreciate the response, I'll check out the other thread.

More to it than just slapping on some rear discs. Especially if you have ABS.

My HHR Panel stops Waaaaaay Better than my S-10 ever could.. & that is still on oem brakes.

If I ever need to up-grade the front discs I would go to NAPA.. There is a thread here about that too.

But I'm not just throwing out $$$ unless I have to..
