Lowering Question

Lowering Question

I've been thinking of lowering my ride with SSC springs. Was wondering if I need to change the shocks as well. I have roughly 33K. I've heard mixed reviews and want to go with what's recommended. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Try the SEARCH box. I am pretty sure it's been covered.

Shocks/struts don't support the vehicle weight. The springs do that. As long as the piston travel is sufficient the shocks and struts are OK. The max/min/travel length of shocks and struts are available from the manufacturers.

I don't know any better way to answer your question.

Fwiw. The bump stops will hit before the shocks bottom out.

Should be more than fine on the factory struts and rear shocks. The FE5 components are really nice so there's no need to swap them out. Put the money toward new endlinks and bushings. I'll be upgrading all of mine out toward the end of the year.

mine is not an SS but the lowering did not affect the shocks or struts!

Mine has 55K on it now and im replacing everything. Not sure how it was driven in it's previous life,

So far I have new end links, bushings and the rear shocks. Just need to order my lowering springs and front struts :)

Thanks guys for your advice. I'm getting quotes of 340 to 400 plus an alignment, with providing my own springs. Guys, are these prices the same in the United States?

Don't know cause I did my own. Not really a hard job. The rears are really easy to do. A 1/2" drive socket set and a jack is all you need for the rears.

Even with the alignment , that price seems to be a little high. I would think in the 250-300 range.

I'll be changing all my stuff out myself as well. An alignment on it's own is usually $50-$75 here.
