rubbing noise

My 2009 HHR has started making an occasional rubbing (my wife calls it grinding) noise when the brakes are used. It happens frequently but not consistently. The brakes were worked by the dealer on April 12, but the noise re-appeared the next day. There is no affect on actual stopping.

Currently, we plan to take the car back on Monday, but I'm looking for thoughts on the matter.

Thanks

walterpalmer,

What did you hear from your dealer on this issue?

You say the brakes were "worked on" by the dealer. So what kind of work? Hard to give an opinion without the details.

Yup, more info would be great, as George said..."Worked On" can encompass so many things.

just did front pads and rotors. 46K was getting a "grind" at the low speed end of brake applications. pad backing on rotors will do that... :) rotors were already warped so it was a no brainer to replace the rotors... Just a shame that the headlight bulb replacement did not coincide with the brake job...

I have fought with the Chevy dealership and Brembo, since the day I bought my 2009 HHR SS.Especially after washing the brake dust out, there are squeals and grinding noises till the brakes warm up. If been shown service bullitens from Chevy that state,"squealing brakes is standard on Brembos and there are no solutions to the noise,Brembo will noy even return emails .It is the only thiing that drives me crazy about my HHR

Weird. I've got 23K miles on mine and never a squeal or any noises. Yes the rotors will rust after washing, but one good stop with brakes will clean off the rust. Also the dust is a pain, but I can deal with it until it's time to replace the pads.
