'07 update
I've been off of here for about 1 1/2 years...Life, you know
Anyway, I'm reporting that my '07 HHR 2LT which I bought new, now with 58k miles on it, is holding up well....
EXCEPT for the darn brakes...
Front rotors warped - and these are aftermarket
Rear drums squeak during slow braking.
The story of my life with this car. They've been doing this since 6k miles.
I was really hoping by now, I'd be able to buy a complete rear-disc brake kit for this thing. Guess not.
I am going to try slotted rotors this time. Does anyone have any specific brand recommendations ? How about the pads, too ?
Thanks - Mark

Well Mark as we've discussed here often times before, slotted/drilled/dimpled rotors are really for looks more than anything on a street vehicle. A good number of folks here have had good results with NAPA Premium rotors and pads, also shoes for the rear.
If you do go the high performance route with your brakes, I believe the consensus is that EBC products are pretty good for the money. Whichever route you take, make sure the mating surfaces on the hubs are clean and concentric up front, also you might check for excessive lateral run out which may signal the beginning of a hub bearing failure.
