1 thing I learned and 1 think I need to understand
Guys,
I learned that my 2.4 liter motor does not need premium fuel and thought by the talk that it did.....it is the 2.2 that does says the owner's manual. I have been using the "good stuff" for quite some time for nothing I think.
I do wonder how the rear window wiper squirter gets it's fluid? The owners manual doesn't say where the reservoir is , so I imagine it pipes the stuff in from the from of the car?
Any contrary opinions?

Rear wiper fluid comes from front reservoir. If that gets low, no fluid to the back. My 2.4 has been using 87 octane for three years. There are several threads on the pros and cons of 93 octane, 89 octane vs 87 octane. Some owners like to spend money for premium, which may be unnecessary. There may be some performance gains, I don't push mine and the economy gains, using 93 octane haven't been shown. Economy usually is based on driving techniques not on octane in the HHRs. My 2 cents..

I use 89 mid grade fuel in my 2008 HHR 2.4 engine and I have no engine spark knock at all..If your engine does not spark knock upon accelleration, you dont need high octane fuel.
The WW fluid for the rear window does not have a seperate tank, it uses the fluid from the original tank.

octane for a 2.4 L
Guys,
Thanks for the info. My 2 other cars require premium and I'm happy to use it if it is called for but here the manual doesnt encourage it.
I also was curious about the wiper reservoir..Thanks!

Guys,
As to premium fuel I should have figured this out on my own earlier.
I have a Corvette Z06 and an Acura TL, when the fueling doors on those cars are open, a sticker proclaims that premium is needed...........have you seen that sticker on your car?
This is called in police terminology.......a "clue"!
