I was really hoping I could use chains. It snowed about 2 inches yesterday in VA. The ground was already frozen, so it didn't melt on contact. I live on a gravel road with one steep hill. Well, guess what? I made it 3/4 of the way up it, and then it just stopped...and slid...into the ditch...

The car's okay, but I was really hoping the HHR would do better in snow. I think with its light weight, and low-profile tires, it makes for a sub-par snow car.

I got towed up the hill by a 4x4, and my car is sitting in my driveway, waiting for the snow to melt.

I have lived where I live for 12 years, so I am familiar with driving up this hill in bad weather. One year, I did a 180 in an Escort, because I didn't have enough speed going up the hill. Yesterday, I hit it at about 25mph, but it should have been 30, I guess.

Looks like I'm the only one that had trouble yesterday. The snow was so fine, it packed down and turned into an ice-like surface. I have to say the '87 Cavalier I once owned, did better than my HHR. It would go through anything. Oh well, I still have a 4x4 to get around in.

Great picture!
I Hear you Blackie, I was all worried about Uma getting filthy, but after seeing the pics and hearing the stories of the snow. I think I will keep my mouth shut! Although for those who haven't been here in So Cal. Since it rains so little here and there are so many cars on the road, when the rain comes there are months of oil and grease etc. on the road. It is just like ice until that washes off. Todd (Uma)

Had mine out for a short trip to the store and to take one dog to the vets. Not real problem. But then I had no problem getting around last year. Only thing is some of the streets here in my town have brick for the surface, so you can imagine how the plowing goes.

I think if I ever get around to getting my new rims with 235's on them, I will put a set of 195 snows on the stock ones for winter. Coming from Northern Ontario, you find out really fast that skinny tires are the way to go for the winter. Maybe even go for 185's!

A mere inconvenience here. No chains required, not even in Worcester, where everything is uphill.

I've a neat two-tone scheme at the moment.
