2.2 versus 2.4

I have a 2007 HHR LT with a 2.4 It has been the best car, I bought it new and it is now pushing 245,000 miles. I've been looking for another one and I am having a hard time finding what I want. Most of the ones I am finding have the 2.2 engine. I have had such great luck with mine I have had my mind set on another 2.4. I would love some input on this

When we set out to buy our HHR in 2006, the first two we test drove were 2.2s. They seemed fine performance wise and were pretty much what we expected and would have been fine.......until we test drove a 2.4. I felt the difference right away. The gas mileage is pretty much the same so we opted for the power difference. Not an earth shattering difference but noticeable.

I recently read something about the different gearing on the 2.2 and it could hold its own with the 2.4. I can't find the article right now.

2007 2.2, automatic, 206,000 miles, no major issues and no VVT to worry about! I'm keeping it till I can't drive anymore!

In 2011 i went looking for the 2.4 for the slight edge it had in performance/ horsepower.
Flash forward just over 4 years and i buy another HHr this time it has the 2.2 .
I like the way the 2009 moves tooo. Dont know if its faster than the 2.4
but from a dead stop to me it seems to pull better.
The 2.4 has 131,xxx on it and the 2.2 has just 55,500 miles.

Blue,

Have you Trifecta tuned your 2.2L to get a little more performance.
That should push it past a stock 2.4L

Just curious....

2.2's rev faster and feel more lively due to their lower internal rotating masses(gee out comes my engineer geekiness), 2.4's are torquier off the line but they're less eager to build revs.

And as SF pointed out, a well sorted and tuned 2.2 will give a 2.4 a run for its money everytime.

Personally I prefer the "Double Dueces", they fit my driving style to a "T", and with a Trifecta tune, Paddy and his kin have embarrassed more than a few..umm..fast cars.

Honestly, unless your budget is minimal, you might as well get a SS. Up here they only fetch a roughly $2-3k extra, unless the dealer really marks it up. I did have a 2.2 5spd before the Cobalt, though. Loved that car. It didn't win very many drag races, but I never really found it lacking in power.
