2.2L or 2.4 L engine hooked to a manual tranny

I am going to buy a new HHR. I want a manual tranny. I cant decide on the engine size. Whats the pros and cons of the 2.2 and 2.4 engine hooked to a manual tranny.

Thanks Tore

Differences have been discussed a lot on here. 2.4 is going to have a bit more power than the 2.2 -- it is noticeable when you drive and compare the two. Gas mileage is generally good in both, but the 2.2 does have an edge here, generally hitting 30+ on the highway. 2.4 will hit mid- to upper 20s. I drive a 2.2 and am very happy with the mix of performance and mileage. I routinely get 34 mpg on my trips south to Alabama. I average 29 in my daily use, to and from work, highway and stop-and-go.

Good luck finding a stick shift in a package you want. Seems Chevy built about 9 autos for every one stick. At least it seems that way around here.

I drove a 2.2l with a 5 spd tonight and loved it. But I was on level ground no hills and where I am I live in a hilly area. I wish they would have had a 2.4 L with a 5 spd to compare. I guess I am looking for the best of both worlds power with fuel economy. I want to win the lotto .

Thanks Tore

You'll find more 2.2 and SS models with manual trannys than you will 2.4. The 2.4 is the standard engine on the 2LT, and those models generally have a higher set of options. 2.2 is in the LS (base) and 1 LT (one step up). Manuals are more prevalent here. SS with a manual is hard to find, at least around here. They are the most popular.

Well today I got to drive an 06 with a 2.2L and a manual 5 speed. I put 50 miles on it and love it. I bought it to. I was going to buy a new one and here was a car the color I was going to buy and with the options I wanted used.
I bought an 06 LT with 21K 5 spd,running boards,fog lights and spoiler fro 10k.
I am very impressed with the performance and the car itself.

You're not going to find that combination in a new HHR, since '08 the 2.4 has been auto only. For '07 you could get get a 2.4 in an LT as an option with the manual tranny, but they were next to impossible to find.
