2.4 engine year transfer info

Hello all,

New be to the HHR forum

I am trying to find information on transferring a 2010 complete 2.4 engine/trans assembly to a 2007 that has a 2.4 in it. Does anyone know if the electronics are totally different and if yes, can the ecm be changed along with the key, dash, main harness????? I am building a, lets say a different HHR from the remains but hope this possible engine swap will not be the projects down fall.

I am an old school builder so the computer issues are difficult for my gray hair.

The 2 are "functionally" identical. It should work just changing the motor. The 2010 internals are improved. You will need somebody that has the right equipment to calibrate the crankshaft sensor.

OK will a 2008 2.4 trans interchange with a 2.4 2007? I would like to change the entire assembly with cradle from the just bought crashed 2010 but am concerned about the 07 computer talking to the 10 engine/trans assembly. I don't mind changing the computer or even the front harness if needed but would prefer not to turn the 7 into a 10 with dash, doors, on and on.

I appreciate your incite about the internals, thank you. Have you been involved with this type of year change or if not, could you steer me to the right hands on person or shop?

Forgot about that.

2008 would be a better choice. Flex Fuel started in 2009, different programming. They changed computer part designs at some point between 2006 and 2008. The 2007 2.4L was pretty much a 1 year only thing, internally anyway.

The HHR depends on the computers not the instrument panel, like some other cars, no need to worry about those things.

We usually advise to stick with the same year because of minor programming differences. Hard to believe you can't find a 2007.

If you end up with that 2010 2.4l ecu and tcm being extra let me know cause I bought a 2010 off someone who didn't know it had the 2.4l put in and the car originally had a 2.2l. I'm dying over here lol.

Do you not look at the dates of the original posting and the latest posts? This thread is almost 2 years old. And Kirk hasn't been back since 12-15-2018.
