I thought my 2.4 in my 07 was a great motor.
If I remember correctly it went 0-60 in 8.2 seconds spinning in good air.
Not too bad considering I drove two Hhr ss's back to back both autos and they where running 7.5 seconds.
Of course I found out later that I forgot to take off traction control
then it was mid to high 6's
The 2.4 with the more aggressive gearing than the ss was not bad to drive at all.
But the ss is a whole different animal.
All depends on what you are looking to do.
Both great cars wish I could have kept the 07 as well but already have to many cars.

The 2.2 vs 2.4 debates always makes me

One thing most of the later 2.4 auto's lost, is the 3.91 final drive ratio to a 3.23 (not positive on that number, but that area).

my 2 cents...

I bought an '09 LS before I really knew anything about the HHR. It was just a perfect fit for my guitar gear. Then I happened to see this '11 "LLT" on a local Chevy dealer's lot and had to have it. Still was unaware of the Turbo version, and I'm a Turbo Buick guy for cryin out loud! Oh well, should have done my homework and researched it a little more
Getting back to my 2 cents.... the '09 LS was a slug. In comparison this 2LT hauls ass. I plan on keeping it because it has all the eye candy that I was looking for. (and the glaring color mismatch on the rear quarter of the '09 was really annoying. I've noticed it on other HHR's).
It was funny that the hatch wouldn't close with the casters still on the speaker cabinet... The Marshall head was strapped in the front seat!

I ended up with 2011 and am happy with it after a few mods. it seemed to rev smoother and really only difference I felt was mid range torque was feeble on the 2.2 however a K&N drop in, pulstar plugs reflectix wrap and royal purple and I hold overdrive up steep hills now at 65 and 70
I did not realize the 10 had moe HP than the 09. MIne is a 10 and my wife's is an 09 and I have always thought mine had better acceleration than her's and now I know why.
