Is the 2.4 worth the extra money?

I ran my 2.4 today in combo city/highway at 500 miles on the motor I average 26.4 and on todays tank with outside temps at 93 degress with the AC on i got 28.3 . The dealer filled the take with 87 octane and i went to 92 octane Shell V-power and the noticeable lag of the 2.4 went away and now it seems much more reactive to the gas pedal. The downside to the equation is my 2006 3.5 liter V6 Malibu at 217 HP got average 30 MPG in the summer... When you factor that in to the picture one could say the 2.4 is overworked somewhat.

Fact check
I didn't want to spend for the SS, and thought that the 2.2 was underpowered for my purposes when I drove it. Furthermore, I wanted the heated leather seats (not available on the SS) and didn't want the soft FE1 suspension (on LS and 1LT). I also wanted a manual transmission, and already own a sports car (Honda S2000). For me, the choice was easy - 2.4 2LT manual fully loaded. They just are extremely rare, particularly after 2006 (power train warranty for 100K miles which was started in 2007 is a good thing).

The 2.4 is what I wanted, but only in a Panel. Mine is one of only 266 for 08 2LT Loaded.. & does just fine by me..
It was one private owner, then me.. & I have all the maintenence records since new..

I have an 06 2LT with a 2.4 and I get ~24 highway with regUnl... maybe there's something to this... I recently rented an new HHR `10??? that uses flex fuel. I could not believe how sluggish it was. I tried to go around someone who was stopped on a small incline from a dead stop, I could barely get going. I've tried that manuever with my 2.4 and it jumped to life. I think the rental was a 2.2 but won't swear to it. whatever it was, it was a DOG. esp compared to mine.
side note. I also own a `03 cavolier with a 2.2 and that is all the engine it will ever need. but it's ~ 1/2 the weight I'm sure.

Hell, if that's all it is, there's NO reason not too. The only thing I would mention, although it's not a real big deal to me because the gas mileage is good in the 2.4, is that it requires premium fuel. I don't mind, but a reality you should consider.
Hey, no need to rub it in If it were a small price difference between the 2.4 and the SS, I wouldn't be in this thread, I'd be trollin around the 2.0 subforum
