2006 LT - Turn Signal not cancelling both directions

Hi: I've read most of the posts here on the forum, and here is our current status. The previous owner has replaced the turn signal switch with an aftermarket one, it was black instead of grey, and the signals worked for the first couple of weeks after we purchased it. Then the signal would not cancel on both left and right turns, so after reading on here and watching a couple of videos, I ordered a genuine GM turn signal switch in grey for $28.96 shipped to me, and installed it pretty quickly, but no luck on the cancelling. I made sure the switch snapped in tightly. I even put the old switch back in, but no luck, so I went down to our mechanic to show him, and he pulled the signal switch back out, and looked it, and showed me a round piece of black plastic that was kind of just floating/spinning around inside. Assuming that is what is supposed to control the cancelling on the little white tab on the signal switch. Anyway, he and the dealer he called said to order an airbag/clock switch and that should take care of it. Has anyone ever replaced one of these before? Assuming the wheel has to come off, and hopefully pretty straight forward from there. I ordered an new AC Delco clock spring for $115.61 delivered to my door. I checked with our dealer, and he confirmed this number as the correct part number. Any hints or suggestions?

Thanks :)

Pull the airbag fuse and wait 20 minutes before you start.

The clock spring is broken, that’s the information I found about how to replace it. How is that about chasing one’s shadow?

He changed the lever and now is going to change the clock spring.
Never found the cause of the problem.

Assuming something on the clock spring has broken, based what my mechanic said after taking a look at it, and seeing something that looks like it has come apart. Not sure what would have caused it, maybe age, as these items in question have some plastic pieces that can snap due to age and usage. Will keep everyone posted on the results.

Last person with this issue said it was a plastic bit on the column that broke off. Maybe it is attached to the clockspring, IDK.
