2007 HHR, paint damage, how to fix

Well, a neighbor took out their insecurities on my car, passanger side right above the gas tank, they took a key to it and scratched my car, how do I go about fixing this without having to shell out major bucks for a paint job in that section. I took pics but I cant seem to upload them I hate people that do this BS, I appreciate any advice :)

Well first I'd report it to the police if you already haven't, then call your insurance and report it. It should be covered by your insurance, less any deductible of course. Sadly the only way to fix it and fix it right is to repaint the panel, otherwise you'll always have the damage there. You can try something like Dr.ColorChip(drcolorchip.com) as an interim measure, but don't expect a miracle. What color do you have by the way? If you have a solid color like black or red it might be able to be spotted in, if you have a metallic like silver, its a whole panel repaint to do it right.

I am off work now and on my way to the Rampart police dept to report it, didnt think of calling my insurance but I will once I have a police report. It is burgundy in color, so maybe I can salvage something with the Dr. Colorchip :)
I know who did this so my attorney will also send her a cease and desist letter, she needs to know I am aware and I will not tolerate this. I love my car, I take care of it like a baby, when I saw this damage this morning it made my heart sink, I didnt know wheter to cry or scream. I appreciate your help

Well, the cops are going to say if you didn't see her do it. They you are SOL..

You have to have proof... Just because somebody's mad at you doesn't automatically make them guilty... Even if they are...

It's a repaint if it's keyed....

Call her and ask her why she did it.. Record the call in case she admits to it..

Then go to the police...

John, I don't know if you are a lawyer or not, but I think what 843 is more valid. Trust that purity.

I filed a police report and I will notfiy my insurance, I will wait on repainting it for the time being, I hope their is not statue of limitations on going through my insurance for repairs as I plan on doing this down the line, hopefully as soon as I move from this place. Sad, been here 15 years, never ever had this problem. Some people just cant be happy for others, they see a pretty shiny new car and they have to take out there key and damage it, pity what ppl will do. I appreciate everyone's advice, thank you all. HAve a terrific weekend!!!

Your insurance will most likely cut you a check for the repairs, you can stick that aside for the time being, just make sure you note any time limits on the check. Most checks issued by insurance companies and the like will expire in 90-120 days, if that's the case just deposit it and earmark the money for the paint repairs after you've moved to a safer neighborhood.
