It is simple model year to model year improvements. They were what they were optional.

It's not a design flaw. When they started including power windows as standard equipment on vehicles it was not because of a design flaw, it was because there were a majority of vehicles ordered with power windows over manual windows. Why on God's green earth does anyone think that GM should "give" something away that was not chosen to be included on a vehicle by the buyer?
Model year -to - model year improvements!

Mind you there is no actual US GM site to confirm that the HHR comes with standard running boards on the 2007 model and the info came from a Canadian GM site. Right now it is just hear say like the SS model HHR. I agree with Vettebuilder on the matter. I wouldn't try to get the money I spent on my running boards back from GM nor would I be upset if they do decide to make them standard.

So even though there is a large thread on here from several people in complaining about paint chip problems on the rear corner panels, you still don't consider not added running boards a design flaw even though just simply adding the runningboards to begin with would have fixed the problem completely? Sounds like a design flaw to me. Instead we have to take time out of our days to drop off our vehicles at the dealership so they can be touched up. That's time and money spent. Time from the customer because they have to spend time getting it done, and money from GM because one can't tell me that GM gets the paint for free. When several are complaining about the exact same issue, that's a design flaw.

Running boards were offered on all HHRs.
