Direct injection of fuel into the combustion chamber occurs when the air charge has been almost entirely compressed by the upward stroke of the piston. You need fuel pressure of well over 1000 psi to drive the fuel into the already compressed air charge.

I think you mean to say HIGHER compression ratios then past non di motors since turbo motors tend to use low compression due to the pre ignition issue created by the excessive heat in the charged air.
