I am sorry but I don’t know as they are compulsory in Canada. I think there was something on one of the threads here that the running lights on the 2008 would be amber (again?) and not use the head lights like on the 2007. If it is supposedly safer to have DRL why would you not want them?

A couple of posts that might or might not help.

Chevy HHR Network > General Discussion > General HHR > DRL- Daylight Running lights change on 07 ?

Chevy HHR Network > General Discussion > General HHR > DRL Daylight running Lights... Info..

So you are saying that rear disks are only an option on an SS and not standard

I would believe the code is for to make sure the SS gets the rear discs
and the standard vehicle doesn't get them...

Because they are only "supposedly" safer... there really isn't much conclusive evidence that any margin of safety is granted by DRLs. Very few manufacturers outside of GM even offer them, and even then they are an optional feature. You can't even buy a Ford vehicle with DRLs in the states.

I think its nothing more than a way for GM to differentiate their products from others, and they hawk it as a safety feature. I already have an '07 HHR and I hit the defeat switch EVERY time I get in it. I'd rather not have to.

Besides all of the above, they bug the crap outta me.

Cop cars are ordered DRL-delete... why can't I?

Any one knows where to find explanation to these codes on my glovebox:
AK5, AP9, AXp, BAG, B3V, CWG, E09, E20, JJD...

noticed mine has 3.91 final transaxle. not the quickiest off the line- i suppose all automatics have that same, and SS with manual trannies have quickiest 4.17 ratios? but which versions have the desert 3.29??? cop/pursuit hhr? would be nice to see...

Most of those codes can be found here in this sticky: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/general-hhr-4/rpo-code-lists-options-12674/
Just scrolling through the different years, I came across most of the ones you're asking about.
Seems like they pertain to the European version.

I too have a 2008 SS with AK5, AP9 and a few more I couldn't find in the thread (JC9, CJF, MK0, and V77). AFAIK, it had always been a Texas car according to the CarFax. As for the rear end code, my sticker shows FR9 which is shown to be the 3.29:1 unit.

Off the link I listed above, I found: (They weren't all under the 08 list)
AK5-Restraint system
AP9-Net convience

The others I couldn't find. You may want to double check your RPO tag. Some of those unknowns are awful close to some on the lists.

Being a Texas car won't have any bearing on the RPO codes. The codes listed pretty much cover all the HHR's. It is not a state specific type of list.
