2009 HHR Underbody

Well, I discovered the underbelly of the HHR is really durable.

A few days ago I was heading West down I10 when I ran over a crumpled pile of metal in the middle of the my lane. I was following about 2 - 3 car lengths behind a utility truck in the night when this pile appeared in front of me. It happened so fast I felt my best option was to try and straddle it. Man, it made such a clatter when I went over it. So loud that I thought I was going to jump out of the top of the vehicle.

It was on my 30th day of having the car, and hadn't made my first payment to the lending company, yet. Man, I felt really sick about it and still bothers me a bit and I'm trying to let it go. I took it to the dealership and had an inspection done. The good news is that no vital organs were hit. The mechanic took me under the car and showed me there was no serious damage and all the things that could have been really bad if hit.

The underbelly is scratched up, front and rear bumpers scratched on bottom, radiator slightly bent on bottom edge, oil pan slightly scratched. No serious damage. Neither the gas tank nor black box sustained any damage.

I know it could have been worse, and it's in the past now. My wife and I had discussed giving it a pet name. This incident made it easier.....The Road Warrior.

Don't live there anymore(been gone a few years) but we have run over 18 wheeler mud flaps on I-10 near Scenic Hwy. I ran over a king size mattress on 3 mile bridge. Had a hood fly off a pick-up, ran that over on 110 near Fairfield. A tire on 9-mile, and a cooler on the bob sikes! Pensacola is notorious for road debris. Is Davis Hwy finally finished? This project has been ongoing for almost 20 years!

Oh Yeah welcome to the site!

Yeah, I10 and Pensacola vicinity is horrible with road debris. I didn't notice until the Road Warrior took a beating....now, I see debris everywhere. I think I could use some medication......lol

I moved to pensacola in 1986, they had just started making Davis Hwy a 4 laner. Once they were done with that, they started from scratch and made parts of it 6 lanes, then added branch roads and interstate access, and once all that was done, they started re-paving all over again. It was a joke for the longest time that Road Cones were the state bird. We moved away in 2005, and they were still working on it. Came back for x-mas last year and they still were working on it. Davis and 110 are the direct N/S access roads to Pensacola Beach from I-10. Btw, if you have never been to Pensacola, we have the prettiest white beaches(well, before the oil spill) in the world!

Send me a PM we might know each other. I'm a "Breezer" my wife was a "Green Weenie" and we both endured UWF.
