Drove about 900 miles in the last week - 27 MPG on a 2.4L 2LT. This was interstate and rural highway driving - 65 to 70 MPH.

15,000 miles on the HHR, I got it used at 12,000.

Is this good or bad? What have your real world information been?

(How can a bad break-in affect fule mileage? Would a grocery-getter ever get a bad breakin? I just wonder how the previous 12,000 miles affected my engine)

thats why i told myself i will never buy another used car again.... (unless it has less than 3,000 miles on it) i like to know all my maintenance and anything else that has happened to the vehicle. i plan on keeping my 07 Sonata till the wheels fall off, or the 10/100,000 mark which every comes first, which more than likely will be the 10 years. Have had the Sonata for a year now (5/31/07) and have less than 12 thousand miles on it.

Gagarin, one method to get a general idea of how the break-in went is to monitor oil level on the dipstick. If the oil level does not drop by the next oil change then the rings seated well during initial break-in and oil consumption is bare minimal. This is assuming no seepage at the valves.

I live about 10 minutes away from Johnnys, try the fries. I think they are better than the dogs. If you follow Rt 46 to the junction of Rt 31 and follow that down to a little town called Glen Gardner, There is Hot Rods Hot Dogs, their hot dogs are alot better.

I have a 2LT with a 2.4 and an automatic. Here was my experience going from Mankato, MN to Vermillion, SD last week.

On highway 4 @ 60 mph I was getting 32.1 mpg.

On Interstate 90 @ 70 mph I was getting 27.7 mpg.

On Interstate 29 @ 80 mph I was getting 25.1 mpg.

HHRs aren’t very aerodynamic. I think the gas mileage reflects that. That being said, I was really moving so I don’t think I can complain.

Aerodynamic as compared to what? Anything that gets to 155mph with only 260/260hptrq is not to bad. All cars will experience this mpg decrease. It's not the HHR's fault...it's physics. Every car you have ever driven will do exactly this same drop. BTW I usually see 36mpg in the flats at 60 with my 5speed ss

I think the people getting around 30+ mpg have the 2.2L 143 HP engine. I get about 22 city/28 Interstate with the 2.4 l 170 HP engine.
