33.4 Mpg
We just drove from WI to Washington D.C. for the forth an averaged 33.4 MPG loaded to the Hilt! Ac was on and there were 4 of us in the car average speed was 72 MPH on the turnpike? A 2,800 mile road test. Not bad for the 2.2!
I love this car!!!

I too, on a shorter trip, got 33.2 mph. Used premium going and regular unleaded on the return. Used exactly the same route, with the a/c on in each direction, traveled the same time of day, and averaged 71 mph. So, I don't believe there is a benefit to using premium (I have the 2.4).
I believe the key to exceptional gas mileage is NOT exceeding 70mph.
And again, I too, will be taking a similar trip as you....at the end of this month. I'm figuring a total of 6000 miles with the routes different for going and returning....after that, I intend to do some engine mod.'s.

WE averaged 29.1 on a 2400 mile trip and we had a 40 to 50 mph left crosswind going to Santa Fe (7000 feet elevation). We drove anywhere from 15 to 90 mph the whole trip. 75 to 85 on freeways.
We drove in town in Santa Fe for 2 days.
Went to Taos and from Santa Fe pretty much all mountain driving till we left Denver and went to Tulsa.
saw Gorge at Taos then to Great National Sand Dunes in Co. then up 285 and then East on 50 to Royal Gorge. this is an awesome mountain road following a river
then 9 to Breckenridge and Silverthorne. Again all mountains and around 7000 feet. Silverthorne to Estes Park all slow and up to 13,200 feet on Trail Ridge Road. real slow there like 15 to 25 in the park
8000 feet at Estes Park for 2 days then down to 5280 at Denver. drove all over there for 2 days and then thru kansas and to Tulsa. 4 days there visiting family and then home on Saturday. Left Wed 6-21 and got home on 7-1

I wish I could see numbers like that! The best I've done is 26.1 on a short trip. Most of my driving is under 10 miles at a shot at 30 miles an hour with the air conditioning on. That makes for horrible gas mileage.
