35.8 MPG with 2LT
This past saturday, I drove 53 miles from Germantown, MD, to Gettysburg, PA, to the East Caast g2g, and driving the speed limit (55 MPH and 65 MPH), going up and down hills, Car 11 averaged 35.8 MPG. YES, 35.8 MPG. I do use Premium gas and, every 3,000 miles I add a can of SeaFoam to the gas tank. (And, Car 11 runs on Michilen Pilot tires, not the Firestone Firehawks that came with the 2LT.)
Car 11 averages 36 MPG on the freeway to and from work (when traffic is moving). Stop-n-go yields 27 MPG. The lowest I have ever gotten is 24 MPG during winter stop-n-go traffic.
No matter the MPG, I still LOVE driving Car 11. The HHR is a great car to drive.

Thats phenominal. That's like 570+ miles to a tank!!!
I have figured out, engine RPM and MPH can play a huge factor in MPG. Most of my long-stretch driving is at 70-75 mph...close to 3000 rpms...if you can keep it at 2500 rpms or lower, you will get better mileage. This is a case where having the "instant MPG" info on the DIC would show us that(as asked by someone here a while back, as to what the purpose of "instant mpg" is)
I typically average about 29.5 or so, using mid-grade fuel...I warm it up for a good 1-2 minutes before driving, have rarily used the A/C, but I do romp on it from time to time, as well as sit in stop-n-go traffic.
I would love to be able to drive 55-60 mph for a whole tank, and see how many MPG I can ring out of it.

This car loves to get in a pack when on the highway...it drafts real well in a 5 car train all going the same speed
Get it out on it's own with no help and the mpg does suffer...best I have ever gotten was something like 35.7 and I have the 2.2. Usually 31-33 mpg is the norm

I have yet to get over 23 mpg even on a long freeway drive to work... I have the 2LT as well... how are you getting this type of mileage? I don't drive like a maniac and I use the cruise control at slightly above speed limit-55 to 60...

I can't say how I am getting the mileage...tires maybe...SeaFoam...Premium Gas...combination of all three...

I've posted about this in all the mpg threads that I could find. No seafoam, yes premium gas (although i don't think that this is REAL factor).

Anyway, I have an SS, I have the instant mpg on always, and I also watch my boost gauge. At 75 degress ambient, highway temperature tires (read 37psi). 55-59 mph yields best mileage regardless of what anyone saids. I can get better city mileage 28.8-30.3 mpg than on the highway at 70mph in cruise. If you live in a hilly area and have a 5 speed, coast the steeper and or longer hills. I am confident that (with a gas can in the back) I could get 600 miles before the fuel cut out on a non stop relatively flat (no extra steep hills) highway run. dic reading 58-59 average mph.

I took a road trip this weekend and averaged 30.4 mpg over about 200mi. Average speed on the DIC was 49 mph. Speed limit was 50-60 the whole way and the terrain was gentle hills. Belle's 2.4L was drinking 87 octane.
I only saw 3 other HHRs on the trip.

I have seen just a touch over 38 MPG running across town on the freeway....at a constant speed of 60 MPH. But that was only a distance of about 50 miles also. AND THAT"S NOT A GOOD INDICATOR OF MPG.

After completing a training trip last week of close to 1700 miles round trip and a drive around Lake Michigan. My first leg was from Superior, WI where I live in the country to Rockford and across I-80 across to Michigan. After my first stop (filled with Premium in Wis) I calculated mileage at 35.9 at 70-72 mph. my second leg on mid grade, more traffic and avg higher traffic speed showed mileage of 32.6 mpg. Mu last leg across the "Up" Wis. and upper Michigan avg speed was 64 mpg with Mpg of close to 33.1. I have a 2006 1LT 2.4 Auto.
