i have gotten 450 miles on a tank several times but i kept it under 75 and all freeway driving going to Tulsa and back on Thanksgiving. Did great there and back and no complaints.
i like to drive hard all the time so i get 20 to 22 in town w some driving on the toll road for like 5 to 8 miles and then all city. so it is more city.
the trips i have taken i have gotten no less than 25.7 running 75 to 90 with a headwind. got 28.5 coming back with a tail wind running 75 to 90 again. it was 560 each way and only used lil more than a tank and a half tank down there driving around.
if i drive really normal around town i have gotten 23 to 24 and will usually fill up around 300 to sometimes more so i am pleased
i bought the car for modding, fun, looks, the way i like to drive it so MPG was not really what i was looking for. i would have bought it if it got 15/20
or whatever.

We are in the crowd which gets in the mid 300's per tankful. My wife does better than me , but I am interested in getting the famed 30 plus MPG that some here report. I just does not happen on my watch!
My dad's Monte Carlo gets better MPG with his six CYL. I thought four banger's were better in the MPG dept than I am experiencing? I guess it is my foot!
I got mid twenties for years in the Corvairs and am doing no better now with a car designed forty years later
Oh well, The HHR is fun to drive. If all I wanted was MPG, there are plenty of smaller, noisier alternatives It has the right balance of ride, noise and fuel economy to keep me happy.

I'm averaging around 425 miles between fillups. MPG on the DIC is around 27-28. I'm just happy that the fuel mileage is in the range that Chevy reported. I'm my old SUV, I'd be lucky to get 22 MPG on the highway. Plus, I would have had to fill up the tank about twice a week.
BTW, do you guys notice any fuel mileage difference between 89 and 93 octane? I have the 2.4L, and I've noticed better mileage on 89.

Our HHR is mostly suburban driven, DCI says ave speed = 38MPH, we average 28-31 MPG all the time (2.2L, auto) We see the 450+ on the DCI range often with fillup. Have not done any big trips yet. We also have a 05 Malibu base model with the 2.2L, it gets a bit better MPG, 30-32 local driving, we have seen 36 on a trip before. The Malibu is a bit more areo slick and possibly has a higher OD ratio, but the HHR is queiter and rides better. I like them both.

35mpg here consistently hwy
Easily get 35 here hwy. Did 576 miles on last tank while traveling (even through the mountains - and yes, the low fuel warning was on the DIC when I finally filled!) Keep your foot out of the throttle, and it's amazing how much you can get.

I've not made any long distance trips or at least what I consider long distance trips in mine. I drive a minimum of 92 miles to the office one way and some days I put in up to 350 miles between visiting clients. My DIC says 48 average mph and 31.2 mpg. I have had it read up to 496 miles on fillup. I'm trying to break the 500 mark and will let y'all know when I do. Oh, I average low 70's mph on the freeway otherwise it starts heading downhill for me on mileage. To answer the original question of 450 miles per tank. I do it everyday..... as I fill up everyday needed or not. Gas is a dime cheaper where I live versus the big city.
