6000 Mile Checkup - What do they do

Hey guys, Got a couple things from my dealer saying i'm probably ready for my 6000 mile checkup. I am, a bit over too.

My question is, what all do they do for this? I thought checkups were more like 10k 20k 30k, but I haven't had a new car...well....ever.

I have already rotated the tires, did it around 5000k. I need an oil change but was going to go to Midas since I have a thing for them that expires soon and it is for a oil change for $10.

So, what all do they do? Seems like with it this new, they shouldn't be much else that needs done. My wife is going to be taking it to Michigan next weekend, so if there are some important things that should be done and checked, I have to do it this week.

Follow your owner's manual. There is nothing to do at 6,000 miles except for rotating your tires. This sounds like another gimmick service schedule dreamed up by the service department to get more money out of your pocket.

They charge you lots of money to change your electric power steering fluid..

Really what they do is change the smoke...... makes it work better.

Just make sure you get them to stamp or sign off the oil change in the back of your owners manual. It`s your only proof to GM down the road if you have major internal engine damage.

As far as the rest of the car I do not think they do any thing when it`s that new and it`s not required to keep your warranty. They called me I told them I do my own work and they put that in there computer and told me they would not call back and they have not in a year.

The invoice/receipt/workorder at the time of the oil change should be enough to CYA since it does have date and mileage info.

My dealer still sends me letters stating it's time for my 3000 mi oil change

thanks guys, that makes me feel better, i really didn't think there was a lot to do.

Still gotta find a time to get it done. With midas' schedule, don't know if I can get it in (and use another $10 change coupon, they expire next week). And my dealer is only open late on mondays.

There gonna take your money in exchange for a little piece of mind for you. No actual work will be performed.
