ABS light not on

I just bought an 06 LT and really like this car. I have a concern though. When I bought it, the salesman swore that it had an Anti-lock braking system. I have been a fan of ABS for a long time, and would rather not have car without them. I drove it home not ever thinking about looking for an "ABS" light. That was Saturday night. Sunday evening, it dawns on me to check for a light and reference the manual. Long story short, I don't have a light. I called the sales guy Monday morning and he said that the car absolutely does have it and he would get me the VIN A service manual for my car/VIN and fax it to me. He said that after talking to the service department, the light would only come on when the system is in use and probably will not come on during start up. He really did put in a lot of work and calls to get me, in print via the VIN A manual, that it does have the Continental Teves MK-70 system. The document goes on to say that the car has anti-lock brakes and traction control. I am used to lights on the dash when I start a car. I am concerned that my HHR does not have ABS and need advice. Long winded, I know, but I wanted to give as much detail as possible. Thanks in advance,

If you can give me the last 6 of your VIN I can tell you if you have ABS.

They are 6s638629. The VIN A manual says that I do, so I look forward to your answer.

It's true that the lights for the ABS and TC do not illuminate unless the systems(s) are in use. However they should illuminate upon start up.

Do you know if your HHR is a 1LT or 2LT? If 2LT, then ABS and TC are standard.

I don't know if it is a 1LT or a 2LT. I'm an HHR newbie. Is there a way to tell?

I am REALLY hoping that something is wrong with the dash lights......

This vehicle is not equipped with ABS per the GM build sheet.

Look in the glove box for the RPO codes. Look for code FE1 or FE3.....

FE1 = touring suspension = 1LT

FE3 = sport suspension = 2LT.

ChevyMgr - what course of action should I take from here. ABS was a condition of me buying this car. Thanks for the advice.

Also, the guy said that it would not show up on the build sheet since ABS and traction control are built into a system together. Am I getting the run around?

Send me a PM with your email address and I will send the GM copy of your build sheet.

Then I would head down to the dealership with the document and find the Used Car Manager first, and if he won't help find the General Manager or Owner.

Don't waste your time with the salesman, it's already been proven that he is either a liar or just plain ignorant.
