Adjustable Phone Stand

Anyone use the dash compartment in their HHR to house their phone and display it as a GPS unit. I have been hunting for an adjustable phone stand for my iPhone 4s that I can put in that compartment that will lay flat (or nearly flat) when not in use but that I can prop up and connect my iPhone to it for when I want to use it as GPS or play music. I have the PAL installed in my car and the cable comes up in that compartment and does not have much room to move.

I use one of these. Mount rare earth magnet part to dash vent and stick a metal keyed ring to phone.

Or if you feel cheap, pull the rare earth magnet out of a hard drive and use that. Come to think of it, wouldn't it be risking corruption of a phone's memory and SD card to put it that close to a rare earth magnet? I know this works great for gun holsters on a bedside table or in a car if you rubber coat them, but I'd be afraid to hold a computerized object with them.

No, memory modules are immune to magnetism.

Part of the problem is that there is no give to the PAL cable and I like to plug my phone into that because I can use the Voice Guided GPS at the same time I play music and it all goes through the speakers. I was thinking something more along the lines of a foldable phone mount but the ones I have seen on the internet do not look too appealing so far and I was hoping that somebody may have found one that fits nice in the compartment already and save me from getting one that does not work so well.

+1 on the Mountek. You should be aware that it will cover the preset buttons or your volume knob depending on which way you rotate the phone. IMHO it works best if you rotate it up, but it will block easy access to your presets.

Nothing that you cannot work around, but it makes it a little more difficult to adjust the stereo without looking at it. If you have steering wheel mounted controls through (or an aftermarket stereo), you are golden.

This is why it's nice to have steering wheel controls
