Aftermarket Hood
#11
****Disclaimer, I don't like this hood, I'm just using it here as an example****
I was thinking something like this, only more streamlined. Maybe make it look like a cowl hood, but with a scoop in the front, but I don't wouldn't want teh side angles to be so drastic. Something similar to what is on the SRT-10 Dodge trucks would be nice.

I don't think it's a seal, but I could be wrong. I do remember someone posting a picture of damage it caused to the hood lining because it pressed to hard against it, so I see the need for a scoop for not only that reason, but also to allow more air into the system. I also think a scoop would look kinda cool on an HHR as well.
All that aside, when I do decide to add an intake to my HHR, I will be going with the CGS, in lieu of the AirRaid. It definitely outperforms the stock system...I rode in CJ's HHR...now that was one helluva ride. Plus, it's more eye appealing than the AirRaid. If I'm gonna take off that overbearing stock filter system, I don't want to replace it with something just as obtrusive in my opinion...I want to be able to actually see what's under the hood too. It all really boils down to a matter of preference and what you want on YOUR car.

If you set the Airaid right, it won't damage the interior of the hood. It will leave a little bit an imprint of where the seal meets the hood, but it won't damage anything because of the rubberized seal that goes on the top of the box that meets the hood. However, I agree that a nice little scoop would be perfect.

Well, this wasn't supposed to be a CGS vs. Airaid thread, but it looks like it has turned that way.
txsman2930, if what you're saying is true about the impint on the hood, then that's actually a good thing. That means the filter is completely sealed off from any heat elements in the engine compartment.
I think CGS could have taken their design one step futher and put a box or shroud around the filter so the heat from the motor would not be drawn into the intake.

Speeding ticket?? Hell, I got my first speeding ticket well before I bought my AIK.
