air bag didn't deploy
welcome, side impacts do not deploy the steering wheel airbag. Because sensors are in the front of car detect front/rear collisions and the airbag wouldnt have helped in side impacts do to head and body would go to side away from collision not towards steering wheel due to physics. thats why they have side impact airbags. Hope no one was hurt seriously. Would have been same in all cars not just HHR

I'm not sure why you tacked onto a 12 year old thread.
I have never heard of an axle breaking on an HHR and I don't know how that could cause that sort of accident if it did.
On an HHR the front impact sensor is in the center above the radiator, that needs to take a hard direct hit ( like a solid wall, not a wooden fence) to deploy the bags. To check for recalls https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gm-r...-status-50716/
