airbag disconect ??
2006 HHR, is there a way to disable the driver side airbag without causing a cel code?
Reason for asking, I have had bypass surgery, and do not want to take a chance on airbag deploy in a minor bumper on my way to PT. I will reconnect at a later date.
I did a search with no good results.
Thanks Bill

Just from the legal end of it, I would think no one here will answer your question.
You are talking liability issues and I'm sure you wouldn't want anyone on this site to get involved.
Fwiw. I would think IF you were in an accident without a working airbag, the seatbelt and/or steering wheel itself would do as much or more damage as an airbag would.
(my 30 years of Fire/EMS experience talking here)

The only legal way to disconnect an SRS component would be to have your cardiologist contact your state's Department of Transportation. A waiver will then have to be granted giving your dealer permission to disconnect the component if possible.
As a Lawyer, I can tell you that you'll be done with Cardiac Rehab and well on the road to recovery before the paperwork even reaches the first review phase.
And as George stated from years of excellent service to his community, the lack of a driver's side airbag would cause more harm than good.
Also remember, that HHR's have "Smart Airbags" that feature graduated deployment depending on impact severity and seatbelt usage.
Thanks for closing this thread whopper, you're on the ball as always!
