Alternator Question..

Okay... I have been looking at options to get more power to a sound system without adding a second battery or a cap. Another member here knew this, and pointed me in the direction of an alternator on Ebay, seen here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...53936288QQrdZ1

As you can read, it's for a 2.2L Cobalt. I was wondering if this would work on the 2.4L HHR. I tried to look it up using gmpartsdirect.com, but no alternator information for the HHR is available. I also looked at the 2.4L Cobalt's alternator, and it appeared similar (very) to the 2.2L application.

So... umm... HELP? Thanks!

Are you looking at running dual alt's? Cause that one just seems to be stock?

No... Probably just rebuilding it to get more amperage...

Gotcha. That one should work then. It states it fits the HHR. What is the stock amperage of the HHR alt?

According to Chevy's website, it's 125 amps.

I had 1600-1800W running constantly, and even with a 2 farad capacitor, my lights and stuff still dimmed out. That was just with 1 12" sub and amp.

I will be changing the system. Probably less wattage 2 10" subs with a dual channel amp, but I also want to change the door speakers and run them from a separate amp. So I just want to be prepared this time and have it running enough juice to the system without affecting my other electronics.

I'd run a separate battery and an isolator. You got lots of room.
Just me, but you don't need that heavy charge just another juice source that is dedicated to stereo only, so the amperage is there at the battery. You don't want to be runnin off the Alternator.

The way I look at it is adding a second battery just puts more strain on the same alternator. True, it's not a constant strain as though it was charging both batteries constantly, but if I couldn't keep it charged with a battery and a capacitor before, I won't be able to do it with two batteries.

I sort of have a major annoyance when my lights start dimming
