Another DIY oil chg question--tool for filter cap?

Yep with the right socket and an extension that clears the engine bay you could use any length ratchet you happen to have around. But one thing a stubby does is limit torque. Since the cap is some kind of plastic just a little too much elbow grease might do ugly things to it, and I bet it's a pricey little widget to replace.

SoCal used to sell an oil filter with replacement cap, and if I remember correctly, it wasn't too much. I'm kicking myself now for not buying one when I had the chance. May never need one, but it would be great to have one on hand just in case.
One more thing, when you use a socket to loosen the cap, the top of the socket will get lodged if you loosen too far. Just break it loose, then take off the rest of the by hand. After you clear the O-ring, it comes off very easily.
BTW the cap seems to be pretty tough, I wouldn't think it would break very easily.

If an oem kit with filter AND the screw-on cap costs $10 that means cap only costs about $5 given what I paid for (aftermarket) filter. Maybe I shouldn't worry so much about damage if it's no more than that (not that $5 isn't plenty for what you get--probably costs under a buck to make but on some imports I wouldn't be surprised to see it retail for several times $5).
Perhaps that's still one good thing about buying a (sort of) domestic. Is it possible common parts can still have prices halfway in the ballpark of sanity without even going aftermarket?
