Oftentimes, it is the bolt for the guide that goes first. There is an upgraded bolt available. Rockauto, ZZP, many other sources.

Timing chain has the front guide , the one that breaks at the top bolt, and the tensioner guide.
I use the Cloyes kits
9-4201SA timing chain kit, you don’t need to change the VVT gears in the cam shafts
9-4202S. Balance shaft chain kit
and the Melling 5499GMB front tensioner upper bolt replacement bolt

Get the bolt too. You don't have to delay the job for it, it can easily be replaced later.

And are they replacing the crankshaft/harmonic balancer seal?
if they want to be through, use the AC Delco seal , I’ve had Felpro and a Durlast seal fail after a year or so.
Are they replacing the camshaft and the crankshaft bolts? GM recommends they be replaced.

This explains the upper front guide bolt issue

Inquiring minds want to know. Did you get the upgraded bolt mentioned above ? Or do you plan to get it ?
