Another what is it?

After I have driven the HHR and come to a stop in my garage, turn off the ignition and all is quiet....except a noise like a small fan running that seems to come from the center of the dash or in the radio area. When I open the driver side door, it stops. I wonder what it is? Clue me in. ...Joe.

actually what you're hearing is the real source of power for the HHR SS, it's running in a hidden area of the dash that no one knows about... these little powerplants put out so much heat when they run that they have to keep going in a "cool-down" cycle so they won't crack the head gaskets!

Remember, guys, when I started to drive (in a 1933 Chevrolet) we didn't even have a heater, radio, turbo, or anything like an automatic transmission. There are so many things in these new cars, (and we really enjoy our HHR) that whir and click and chime, and so many things that are a joy to use, like the "auto" for the headlights, the remote start, that I just wondered what that little sound was.

I wondered about it too. It appears to be the fan that cools the power amplifier/stereo.

Thanks, guys, for the info about the cooling fan for the stereo. I could have asked at the dealership, but because of your enthusiastic interest in the HHR, all of you out there are probably more knowledgable than some of the people at the dealership. I really enjoy the HHR. I really enjoy the posts on this web site. The information has helped me several times.

I have a sound too, Surely you can't hear the stereo fan with all the doors closed and windows up while standing 10 feet away can you? Does sound like a really small computer fan running though.
