another XM radio question

well, I bought my used 2006 2LT 12/31/07
it came with the 3 month free trial of XM(so I think...it was working when I bought it, and still is)

if it is the 3-month trial...it's due to expire soon...

I will get the radio ID number, and call to activate my own account...but:

1)will I have to pre-pay a whole 12 month subscription?
2)will my radio be RESET and I'll have to re-program anything?
3)being new to GM vehicles with BCM's and what not...will any form of "tech2" re-flash be needed?
4)my post count number frightens me

I am happy with the XM in the premium set up...no OnStar, so not worried about that...just dont want to call XM, and have them nail me with some 12 month plan up front, or terminate my existing...

for all I know, my car has a pre-paid subscription from the last owner, and might continue working for 9 more months...be a bummer if that was the case, and I end up termi8nating what could have been FREE XM for a long time.

any suggestions? Not trying to be cheap...just hate being forced to spend money at their disgression, instead of my priorities.

I would wait till it stops working then renew. Takes about 10m on the phone or do it on line. You should be able to buy just 6m yes you will have to pay up front. But if the last person just payed for a yr + the 3m's from the dealer you could be good. Call them and ask when it runs out...

My sister just resubbed XM on her Tahoe last December and said she got a better deal by pre-paying for 12 months. She had the option of paying monthly but it was $2 more a month.

All you need to do is call them up and they will set you up an account. Once you give them the radio ID they can setup the payments however you feel like it. I do mine and my fiance every 3 months. You can do it monthly or annually. I have had XM since 2003 when it came on my cavalier at that time and then I switched it to the GTO and now the HHR. Its not too hard and every time I have had to call them im not outsourced to india.

Also make sure you go on the xmradio.com and sign up for your free online account so you are able to listen to it when your online.

You get a better deal by doing this. Simply ask for the $77 a year deal.

2)will my radio be RESET and I'll have to re-program anything?
No

3)being new to GM vehicles with BCM's and what not...will any form of "tech2" re-flash be needed?
No

4)my post count number frightens me

You can subscribe any time you want...your paid subscription will start once your 3 month trial expires.

If you let it just run out, there is an activation fee. I just re-upped mine, had 2 days left. Went for the year. I was on the fence as I usually just burn CD's. However, when I listen, I write down tunes I never would have thought about.

I'm about to take delivery of a GM Certified HHR. One of the Certified benefits is a 3 month subscription. At this point I don't know if it will be enabled by the dealer.

But, when I went to the XM site, it seems that any vehicle passing to a new owner can get a 3 month free trial. Makes sense. Just let whatever is being received run out then sign up for a 3 month trial. From what you have posted it is highly unlikely that the current account is in your name. Tell XM you are the new owner and just recently discovered the service on your vehicle and would like to properly evaluate it.

But you did not enter into a subscription agreement nor a 3 month trial with XM. The previous owner did. He agreed to subscribe for a period or try it.

You are entitled to see if XM will give you a trial subscription. XM don't know who owns the radio. Nor do they know what members of your family have been listening to it.

When the subscription runs out for the first time any contract is between you and XM.
