Anyone Installed a Home-Link?

I was wondering if anyone had installed a Home-Link Garage door opener in their HHR ? If so could PLEASE post pics and a how to? I have bought one off of E-Bay but don't know how to install it. I have been to several "custom installers" of stereos and they either doesn't want to fool with it or they want an arm and leg to do it!

Would you tell us what a Home-Link is and how it differs from whatever! What makes it special?

Home-Link is a GM supplied garage door opener. Usually mounted in the upper console by the inside mirror. Others are part of the drivers sunshade. It's a universal remote that you program to your garage door. Usually there are three buttons that can be programmed to open doors, gates etc...

The benefit is that it is built into the vehicle.

It also interacts with home automation systems as well. I don't have one in my HHR, but our Olds Bravada has Home Link (3 button ) and my wife can turn on the outside lights, then open the garage door when she gets home. We have an RF lighting control for our home, so it was an easy integration for us.

I don’t recall this option being offered to me when looking at my HHR purchase, so I will assume this is out of another vehicle altogether or a generic unit. From what I understand it is a glorified multiple garage door/gate/light control remote control unit.

In which case the OP must decide where to put it within the vehicle and I bet it will be a custom fit – that must be what he is having troubles having completed by others. Perhaps a body shop or custom detailer might be interested.

This is correct. It's simply a 3 frequency RF transmitter. In our Bravada, the 3 buttons are integral with a roof console and appear to be proprietary to that specific vehicle's console. And re the HHR, I also agree that I don't think it was an option.

Now only if I could find the time to make it across state, I'd be set up w/ it.

Gentex mirror with homelink

I just bought an'09 LT2 One of the first things I did was have a Gentex Auto
Dimming inside rear view mirror with compass, Outside temp and Homelink
installed. The mirror was $320 and the install at a pro stereo shop was $150 and took about 2 Hrs. I got this mirror because the car I bought was a fleet
rental vehicle without Onstar or XM and came with the really cheap Day/Night
mirror. I kinda screwed up buying the outside temp version because that info
is already in the DIC. Gentex does have a model with just the compass and
homelink. They have one with Onstar but unfortunately it doesn't have the
homelink on board.

I put in a Homelink autodimming mirror. The one out of the Chrylser Sebring works with dimming map light. The compass/temp is red but you can take it apart and put a GM teal lens in to match cluster.

Test out....

Are there any direct swap mirrors with homelink? I have the standard HHR auto-dimming mirror with compass already.
