Anyone know what 3-character code is for ABS brakes?

...and where is the SPID sticker with all the installed options on these cars?

I don't have an HHR yet, but am serious about getting one. I'm calling around to various dealers from as far away as 300 miles. I'd like to get one with ABS because we have lots of snow in the mountains here. It's difficult to trust the various dealers if they say it has ABS because, a lot of them just assume it has it, and some dealers/salespeople aren't the most informed people in the world (to be generous).

Any help would be appreciated.

The label is in the glove box. You are looking for option JM4. Or give me the last eight of the VIN and I can tell you.

Hi ChevyMgr, because of different codes for Canadian Vehicles and my fast failing memory I am confused (a usual state) but can you order ABS as a stand alone option? I thought the ABS is part of the Traction Control (NW7) (what 5speed4 really wants I think) and that you had to get a 2LT to get that? Just wondering.

Good question. I don't spend too much time up front with the sales people (they scare me) , but I can tell you that NW7 is "Engine Traction System" (ETS) and it works as follows:

When drive wheel slip is noted while the brake is not applied, the electronic brake control module (EBCM) will enter traction control mode.

The EBCM requests the powertrain control module (PCM) to reduce the amount of torque to the drive wheels via GMLAN messages. The PCM reduces torque to the drive wheels by retarding spark timing and turning off fuel injectors. The PCM reports the amount torque delivered to the drive wheels via GMLAN messages.

Since the EBCM controls the command I would say ABS will have to be there to support ETS. Now can ABS be there with out ETS, I just don't know.

So I will have to refer to my signature statement on this one until further investigation.

Thanks again. (You answered another question for me about the HHR for sale in CO.)
You, sir, are a valuable resource!

Thanks also to Old Ray. Traction control would be a nice feature to have.

Thanks! No ABS again. :)

By the way, it would appear by this one on ebay, that, at least for 2007, you could get ABS (JM4) without ETS (NW7):

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/07-Ch...em300204024873

It lists all the options by the 3-digit code. I'm presuming they got that by running the VIN--similar to ChevyMgr. Too bad it's all the way across the country from me.

Many here would also advise you get one with the running boards, to help avoid paint chipping.
