As a cigarette smoker of 25 years who quit in 05 and never looked back I dont lecture, thats rude. But facts are that cigarette smoke is very destructive to car interiors, harmful to electronics and lowers resale value. Took me months to find a reasonably priced hhr that was smoke free.
Now with that said I have been a legal medical cannabis patient for the last 12 years and still use flower on occasion. While I never smoke and drive I do like to smoke as a passenger or while at home working on the car in the yard so ill keep an eye open for different items that may be of help.
Does anyone know how many hhrs with the "smokers option" were built'or was it just an ash tray instead of the square container and sticking a lighter in 12v supply?

I don't smoke, but I ordered the smokers package on my 2006 thinking I wanted the outlet. I got the lighter and an ashtray that went into the cup holder.

Smoker's Package
Part Number: 12499110

It's still available.

You also got a cig lighter outlet instead of a 12V aux outlet. If you put a cig lighter into a power outlet you will only blow a fuse, if you are lucky.

Right now the lighter isn't a concern. A trip to any parts store can handle that switch over.

The goal is to have an ashtray and free up the cup holders and make something that my short lil wife can use. Make the car a little more user friendly for travel.

When all the maintenance for harvest is done around here I can pull the car into the shop and experiment with ideas but if anyone out there has a cure for the situation I'd sure like to hear about it. While I may be brilliant there are other brilliant folks out there with good ideas, too.

I don't know if you have an AT or 5-speed, but mine is an auto.
I have one of those butt-can-type deals (roughly soda can-shaped) stuffed in the square cubby just forward of the transmission selector.
Yeah, I know it is filthy. Maybe this weekend I will find time to do an interior cleanup.

Works perfectly for me, but I think the manuals don't have the same arrangement?

The one we have is automatic.

The tray area in front of your shifter is different than what we have. Ours is just as wide but thinner so the cup type ashtrays that we have don't fit down in there.

The woman brought home a small thick aluminum pie type pan and I did some whittlin' and bendin' and set it in that tray. As it turns out we've been using my car every time we've gone out this week so there hasn't been a test run as yet. If that does work out I'll need to make something a little neater but this will make a good test before I try that.
