Ash tray. Anyone got creative?

The woman brought home a small thick aluminum pie type pan and I did some whittlin' and bendin' and set it in that tray. As it turns out we've been using my car every time we've gone out this week so there hasn't been a test run as yet. If that does work out I'll need to make something a little neater but this will make a good test before I try that.

You must have a 2008 or earlier that has the window switches there then.

HHR Ashtray

Look in the first picture of this link. The round black thing is the ashtray.

Since these things don't have an ash tray we are currently using one of those lidded cup type things sitting in the drink holder spot. That's an inconvenient location for even a can of pop let alone reaching back to flick an ash into.

There's gotta be other smokers driving HHRs. Did anyone come up with a good idea or mod for an ash tray that won't make a bloomin' mess in the car?

That cup type is very similar to what I'm using currently. I cut a piece of aluminum that basically covered the slot area in the console with enough extra to have a downturned leg on each side and then used a screw to attach the cup to the aluminum. The concept works fairly well and the only thing blocked are the two rear window switches which isn't an issue for us.

I'm going to do a better version using the capped cup type with the center hole and do up some better fitting 'legs' to sit down in the slot a little better. We found that at one stop sign near our home that is on a hill that the cup will roll out of the slot. Not good. That stop is the only place that has occurred, twice, but it does show a flaw in my design.
